In 2022, Bert Dautzenberg created the garden design of the Belgian pavilion of the world horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo in collaboration with Nicolas Godelet. Floriade theme in 2022: Growing Green Cities. The Belgian ‘Regenerative Garden’ received 2022’s Sustainability Award. The Belgian garden was a textbook example of circularity for both visitors and other Floriade participants.
The Belgian ‘regenerable and edible garden’ convinced the jury totally. The jury paid attention to criteria such as aesthetics and sustainability. The plants used were typical of Belgium and 60% of them edible. In addition, the architecture of the pavilion was designed to minimise environmental impact. Every material chosen was fully reusable or degradable, low-carbon, regenerable and natural.
It is partly thanks to Bert Dautzenberg that the Belgian pavilion’s garden was so ingeniously and circularly designed that it won the rightly deserved Sustainability Award Floriade Expo 2022.
